About Lisbon Accounting and Business School (ISCAL), Lisbon Polytechnic Institute (IPL)

Located in the metropolitan area of Lisbon, IPL- Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa is a public institution with a long history and a diversified range of fields in higher education. IPL includes eight different Higher Schools, namely, Business, Communication and Media, Dance, Education, Engineering, Health Technology, Music and Theatre and Film. IPL offers 84 undergraduate and graduate programs in all these fields, involving about 13000 students and more than 1600 teachers and staff.

IPL, as well as ISCAL, provides education that develops the person by promoting citizenship and encouraging the active participation of our students in their institution and in the community, contributing to national development by educating professionals whose abilities and value as employees have been nationally and internationally recognized.

Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa (ISCAL) is one of the eight Higher Schools of IPL, located in the center of Lisbon and it is originated from the “Class of Commerce”, founded by the Marquês de Pombal in 1759, which is the first Governmental Establishment of Accounting Education. ISCAL pursues a mission to generate, teach and disseminate knowledge in the realm of accounting, management, administration, entrepreneurial finance, commerce, and solicitor studies. The instruction provided in ISCAL is a blend of solid scientific principles and essential practice in its area, leading to the successful placement of its graduates in the labour market. ISCAL’ s goal is for its graduates to continue to be, as they have since its founding, pillars of their professions within numerous companies and organizations nationwide, in accounting, administration, and finance. ISCAL has increased the rate of its internationalization endeavours through its cooperation with countries in the European Union and with African countries whose official language is Portuguese (PALOP’s), thereby gaining strategic partners through the participation of a growing number of teaching and non-teaching staff and students in exchange and mobility programs. Furthermore, it engages in community service, contributing to its reputation as a benchmark institution on the national and international stage.

The widespread employability and the attractive career opportunities offered to its graduates are among factors that contribute to Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa growing reputation among students. On the other hand, its multidisciplinary course selection is designed to meet the needs of the business world and to respond to the ongoing demand by employers, which lead to a positive response of the labour market.

We are committed to strengthening international relationships with other institutions of Higher Education.
